How Much Does a Luxury Interior Curation Project Actually Cost?
This is the question every client asks, and the one most curators avoid answering directly. I understand the hesitation. Every home is different, every brief is different, and no honest professional wants to quote a number before seeing the space. But avoiding the question entirely does clients a disservice. So here is my attempt at an honest answer to luxury interior design cost in India that clients actually deal with, without the usual vagueness.
Why the Range Is So Wide
Search for interior curation pricing, and you will find numbers ranging from a few lakhs to several crores for what looks, on the surface, like the same service: someone helping you furnish and light a home. The range exists because “interior curation” is not one service. It covers everything from selecting a handful of furniture pieces for a single room to managing full-scale sourcing, customisation, and installation across an entire residence.
Three factors drive the range more than anything else:
Scope. A single living room curated with a handful of statement pieces costs a fraction of what a full residence, from kitchen to lighting to furniture, will cost.
Sourcing origin. Locally manufactured, artisan-led pieces are priced differently from furniture imported from Italy or elsewhere in Europe. Import costs, duties, and logistics add meaningfully to the final number, which is why budgeting conversations happen early, before a client commits to a sourcing direction.
Licensed brand vs artisan-led brand. This is where I see clients overpay most often. A licensed luxury name, where you are largely paying for a label manufactured by a third party, often costs more than an artisan-led corporate offering comparable or superior craftsmanship. Part of my role is making sure clients understand what they are actually paying for.
What Actually Goes Into the Number
The cost of designer furniture is only one line item in a curation project. A full project typically includes:
● Design language alignment with the architect
● A curated product presentation across recommended brands
● A broad budgeting exercise, often before final sourcing decisions are made
● Import handling, where relevant
● Installation and technical fitting on site
● After-sales service and support
Clients frequently underestimate the last three. Furniture that arrives beautifully specified but poorly installed, or lighting that is technically mismatched to a space, ends up costing more to correct than it would have cost to get right the first time.
A Rough Sense of Scale
I am cautious about publishing exact figures because a number without context misleads more than it informs. But as a general orientation, single-room curation projects using a mix of local and select imported pieces typically start in the mid to high lakhs. Full-residence projects, particularly those involving significant lighting design and imported furniture, commonly move into the range of several crores, scaling with square footage, import mix, and level of customisation.
These are starting points, not quotes. The only way to get an accurate number is a proper site and brief discussion, which is exactly why the first step in any project I take on is understanding the design language and scope before a single rupee is discussed.
The Real Question to Ask
Most clients ask, “How much will this cost?” The more useful question is “what am I actually paying for?” A lower quote built on licensed labels and minimal installation support can end up costing more over a decade than a higher quote built on artisan-led sourcing, proper technical execution, and genuine after-sales service.
That, more than any specific number, is the honest answer to what luxury interior curation costs. It is not the price of the furniture. It is the price of getting the whole thing right the first time.
